Understanding Data Privacy Laws

The past few years have seen drastic changes in the way that personal data is collected and handled by businesses. Data privacy is spearheaded by the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the US California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Organizations that go beyond just complying with the new requirements will build trust with consumers and users and stand out from their competitors.

While the GDPR set the precedent for the new data privacy standards, the CCPA is different from the EU regulation, bringing modern data protection rules to the U.S. As a marketer, if you use and process customer data, you’re most likely subject to comply with these laws. With the GDPR already in effect and the CCPA becoming effective January 2020, it’s time for you to examine your data practices, and make the necessary changes to comply with these privacy laws.
